Palm Beach County
Water softeners, sized from your own tap
Honest Water Co. PB installs water softeners across Palm Beach County, sized from a free test at your kitchen sink, with the softener and reverse osmosis package from $2,850 installed and a lifetime warranty.
Fifteen utilities treat the county’s water fifteen ways, and only two publish how hard it leaves the plant. So we size the system from the number we measure at your tap and give you an exact price before you decide.
The systems
Three tiers, one honest difference: capacity
More grains means longer between regenerations, less salt and less water used getting there. Which one fits is a measurement, not a sales pitch.

By community
How hard is the water in each Palm Beach County community?
Only two utilities publish a hardness number, so we group every community by the treatment its utility publishes, which is what decides how much hardness survives to your tap. The Honest Water Score is our score, built from official utility reports: the county average is 6.1, and homes score 9.5+ after an install.
Tier 1: Full reverse osmosis systems
Among the most thoroughly treated water in the county. What’s left to fix is usually the chlorine taste.
- Highland Beach 8.5/10
- Belle Glade 8.5/10
- Pahokee 8.5/10
Tier 2: Membrane plants and blends (nanofiltration / RO)
Membrane-treated at the plant, so softer than most, but plants often blend in conventionally treated water, and chloramine still reaches your tap.
- Boca Raton 7.5/10
- Boynton Beach 7.0/10
- Juno Beach 7.0/10
- Jupiter 7.0/10
- Lake Park 7.0/10
- Lake Worth Beach 7.0/10
- North Palm Beach 7.0/10
- Ocean Ridge 7.0/10
- Palm Beach Gardens 7.0/10
- Tequesta 5.5/10
- Wellington 7.0/10
Tier 3: Lime softening only
Lime-softened only, the standard treatment, and where we most often measure real hardness at the tap.
- Delray Beach 5.0/10
- Lantana 5.0/10
- Riviera Beach 5.0/10
Tier 4: Surface water with no softening step listed
Lake-fed surface water with no softening step in the city’s report. Hardness isn’t published, so only a tap test tells you.
- Palm Beach 4.5/10
- West Palm Beach 4.5/10
Tier 5: Palm Beach County Water Utilities, eastern system: treatment varies by plant
Treatment depends on which county plant serves your street. Genuinely unknowable without a test.
- Greenacres 5.5/10
- Haverhill 5.5/10
- Royal Palm Beach 5.5/10
Private well country: nobody treats it unless you do
Private well: no utility treats it. Iron, sulfur and hardness reach your tap untouched.
- Loxahatchee 3.0/10
- Loxahatchee Groves 3.0/10
- The Acreage 3.0/10

Questions
Water softener questions
Call us if yours isn’t here. A real person answers.
What size water softener do I need in Palm Beach County?
Size is driven by how hard your water is and how much of it your household uses. Our Standard is 48,000 grains and suits most three to four bedroom homes; the XL is 64,000 and the Dual Tank is 96,000. We size from your actual tap test and household, not square footage, and in this county your utility's treatment matters as much as your house, which is why the free test comes first.
Does everyone in Palm Beach County need a softener?
No, and we say so when the test shows it. Boca Raton softens at the plant and publishes 65–80 mg/L; membrane systems like Seacoast's often deliver softer water than lime-softening systems do. Where the water arrives soft, the honest recommendation is usually carbon filtration for the chloramine and reverse osmosis at the kitchen tap instead.
How much salt will I go through?
Most households top up the brine tank every one to two months. Our systems use metered regeneration: they regenerate when they've actually processed enough water to need it, not on a timer, which meaningfully cuts both salt and water use. If you'd rather avoid salt entirely, the salt-free conditioner prevents scale without it, though it conditions rather than softens.
What does a water softener cost here?
Our softener plus reverse osmosis package starts at $2,850, installed, with a lifetime warranty. Your hardness, your household and where the equipment can go can add to that, so the free in-home test turns it into an exact number for your house before you decide anything.
Which Palm Beach County utilities publish their water hardness?
Two. The City of Boca Raton publishes finished hardness of 65 to 80 mg/L (3.8 to 4.7 gpg), and the Village of Tequesta about 100 to 120 mg/L (roughly 6 to 7 gpg), both on their own utility FAQ pages. The other thirteen leave hardness out of their annual reports, so for most of the county the free test at your sink is where the number comes from, and it is the number a softener is sized from.
How long does a water softener installation take?
A whole-home softener is usually a half day, and an under-sink reverse osmosis system around two hours. We clean up before we leave, installation is included in the price, and the price you agreed is the price at the end.
